Citavi

General information

Students and employees of the University of Kassel can request their personal license key for the reference management program Citavi using their university e-mail address (registration [external]). Citavi Web is not covered by the campus contract and central procurement is not currently planned.

Mac users cannot use the software via the campus contract due to the lack of support via a local client. We therefore recommend that Mac users use the free software Zotero.

The University Library is available as a contact for Zotero: info[[at]]bibliothek.uni-kassel.de

Further information on the two reference management programs can be found on the library pages

Download and installation of Citavi software and MS Word Add-In

Once you have created an account via the registration website [external] (email address must end in ...@student.uni-kassel.de or ...@uni-kassel.de), you can view information about your license at < https://citaviweb.citavi.com/account > in the "Licenses" category.

The latest version of Citavi can be downloaded at <https://www.citavi.com/de/download>. Select "Download now". Then run the downloaded .exe file and accept the license agreement. Select the "Complete" option under "Setup type". Citavi will then be installed.

After the installation, start Citavi and log in with your Citavi account credentials. The license will be activated automatically.

Microsoft Word Add-In

The Microsoft Word Add-In for Citavi is automatically installed when you install the "Complete" setup type and is available the next time you start MS Word.

If the add-in is not available, please check whether it is displayed in MS Word under "File -> Options -> Add-ins" under "Disabled items" and activate the add-in.

If the add-in is not there either, please open the Windows Control Panel and select Citavi under "Uninstall or change programs" and click on "Change". Here you can install the Word Add-In later under "Customized setup".
