Institut für Theoretische Physik - Theory of Nanostructured Materials
The Nanostructured Materials Group at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the University of Kassel gathers condensed-matter theorists with a strong background in the physics of clusters, nanoparticles, low-dimensional systems, and nanostructures. Our research interests include methodological developments on density functional theory, computational quantum theory of novel magnetic materials, strong electron-correlation phenomena, quantum non-adiabatic dynamics, as well as stochastic dynamics in complex energy landscapes.

- Tuning the magnetic moments and anisotropy energy of CoRh nanoalloys
- Electronic, structural and magnetic properties of metal clusters doped with magnetic impurities
- Kondo effect and valence fluctuations in small clusters
- Relaxation processes and stochastic dynamics in magnetic nanostructures
- Electronic theory of magnetic domain walls and magnetic field switching in transition-metal nanowires
- Magnetic impurities in nanowires: First-principles investigation of local magnetic moment formation in one-dimensional metallic hosts
